The first time I ever saw SCV was in 1973 in, I think it was Manitowac, WI. I was a 14 year old lead soprano player in the Marion (Ohio) Cadets. They had the practice field after us. As we were leaving, a few of us got to talk briefly with several members of their hornline. They were very friendly and raved about how they liked our show. I remember thinking afterwords, man, what class! They were God as far as we were concerned, and they were complimenting us. There has never been a classier corps than the Santa Clara Vanguard. For some reason, I don't remember why, they were only in exhibition that night. I, and several of my comrades, saw the whole performance from the concert side of the field. I was completely in awe of them. What memories!
