In search of.... The Golden Knights, Southgate, Kentucky

Hey DCHS Members:

I'm looking for photos and or videos from the year I marched in the Golden Knights of Southgate, KY. (1980). Anyone... Anyone..?

GK was a Class A Finalist in Birmingham, AL in 1980 (tied for 10th with the Capitalaires (WI) in Prelims... 11th in Class A Finalst)

GK went inactive in 1981. We had linkage through the staff with the Madison Scouts (Dan, Tom and Norm Acheson).

Thanks for the help!

Hello Chuck!

I wish you luck in your search for all things GK.... seems like there's not a lot to be found. You might try poking around on CorpsReps -- I noticed there are some former GK people listed as members of that site's following. I'm not sure who was still with the corps when you marched that was there when I was (1977), so I would be unable to suggest who you might track down to ask about memorabilia. I know that when Ken Kobold was no longer around on the drum corps scene, the old custom audio tapes of corps like ours stopped being available as well. I only wish someone would take a shot at an alumni website for GK....

Best regards,
Lee Blackaby

The story I heard was they lost the DCA finals due to an timing era. Something about they rushed the gun coming off the line, and there was a penalty because of it that cost them the show. Heard this from more than one Skyliner.
